The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC) in Spokane is currently hosting "Samurai, Sunrise, Sunset," an exhibition that delves into the rich history and artistry of Japan's samurai warriors. This exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the armor, weaponry, and personal artifacts of the samurai, a powerful military class that ruled Japan for nearly 700 years.

Organized in collaboration with Contemporanea Progetti and the Museo Stibbert in Italy, along with the Exhibits Development Group in the USA, the exhibition showcases masterfully crafted items that narrate the stories of these legendary warriors. Each piece reflects the meticulous craftsmanship and intricate details characteristic of samurai culture.

Running from February 1 through June 1, 2025, the exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission fees are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+) and college students, $9 for youth aged 6-17, and free for children under 5. MAC members enjoy free entry.

In conjunction with "Samurai, Sunrise, Sunset," the MAC is also presenting "The Evolution of the Japanese Sword," a smaller exhibition that highlights the art of Japanese swordmaking across centuries. This exhibit features a collection of swords ranging from contemporary reproductions to pieces dating back to the 11th century, providing insight into the development and artistry of these iconic weapons.

Visitors to the MAC can immerse themselves in the world of the samurai, gaining a deeper understanding of their cultural significance and the exquisite artistry associated with their legacy. This exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in Japanese history, martial traditions, or the fine arts.
